Zonic, initially fanzine, subsequently almanac and currently publication platform for “marginal cultural views and moments of involvement”, celebrates a quarter century and invites to a two-part presentation mainly dedicated to “Notes from the Underground”, a recently released cooperation with Portuguese online-archive project Unearthing the Music on Leipzig's Major Label, a compilation of avandgardist pop culture from behind the Iron Curtain.

Zonic-editor Alexander Pehlemann will shortly introduce Zonic as well as contexts from the double album he compiled together with David Crowley and Daniel Muzyczuk, the curators of the exhibition with the same title presented earlier this year at the Academy of Arts in Berlin, which served as vantage point for the musical selection featured on the double vinyl.

This is followed by a conversation between Daniel Muzyczuk, main curator of Museum Sztuki in Łodz (Poland), Valery Alakhov from Leningrad/St Petersburg group New Composers, who are even featured twice on the compilation, and Berlin-based cultural scientist Hannelore Fobo, who will discuss the fascinating scene in 1980s Leningrad.
Then, the New Composers drew attention with their experimental and humourous tape cut-ups, worked with Timor Novikov, E-E Kozlov and Sergey Kuryokhin, became Soviet rave-pioneers (even including a scent of late Soviet queerness), and later even produced ambient albums with Brian Eno and Pete Namlook.

This is followed by Valery Alakohv's performance of unreleased New Composers-material from the late 80s, concluded by selekta pehle's easily inflammable cocktail of industrial, post-punk or dub-jazz from the former Eastern bloc and eclectic electronics selected by his Al-Haca companion DJ Bird.

Zonic, zuerst Fanzine, dann Almanach und nun Publikationsplattform für „Kulturelle Randstandsblicke & Involvierungsmomente“ feiert das Vierteljahrhundert und lädt zu einer Präsentation in zwei Parts.

Diese ist vor allem "Notes from the Underground" gewidmet, einer kürzlich in Kooperation mit dem portugiesischen Online-Archiv-Projekt Unearthing The Music beim Leipziger Major Label veröffentlichten Compilation von avantgardistischer Popkultur hinterm Eisernen Vorhang.
Zonic-Herausgeber Alexander Pehlemann stellt dabei sowohl kurz Zonic als auch Kontexte der Doppel-LP vor, die er zusammen mit David Crowley und Daniel Muzyczuk erstellt hat, den Kuratoren der gleichnamigen Ausstellung, die im Frühjahr bereits in der Akademie der Künste gastierte und Ausgangspunkt für die musikalische Auswahl war.
Anschließend diskutiert Daniel Muzyczuk, Chef-Kurator des Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź/PL, zusammen mit Valery Alakhov von den gleich zweimal auf der Compilation vertretenen Leningrader/St.Petersburger New Composers sowie der Berliner Kulturwissenschaftlerin Hannelore Fobo die extrem interessante Szene im Leningrad der 1980er. Die New Composers fielen innerhalb dieser seit 1983 mit experimentellen wie humorvollen Magnetband-Cut-Ups auf, arbeiteten mit Timor Novikow, E-E Kozlov und Sergey Kuriochin, wurden darauf zu Soviet Rave-Vorreitern (wobei sie auch um einen spätsowjetischen Hauch Queerness nicht verlegen waren), um dann später sogar Ambient-Alben mit Brian Eno und Pete Namlook zu produzieren.

Danach performt Valery Alakhov unveröffentlichtes New Composers-Material der Spät-1980er live und als Abschluss mixt selekta pehle einen leicht entzündbaren Cocktail aus Industrial, Post Punk, Dub-Jazz und sonstigen eklektisch-elektrischen Schrägsounds, die allesamt osteuropäischer Provenienz sind, also aus den bevorzugten Zuhör-Zonen von Zonic, vermengt mit internationalen Adäquatklängen, die sein Al-Haca-Partner DJ Bird einwirft.
