Founded in 2019, Radical Sounds Latin America is a multifaceted initiative encompassing a digital platform, an annual non-profit music festival, and a cultural crossroads located in Berlin. Rooted in the unique terrain and context of Latin America (LATAM), our primary focus has been on cultivating a secure and nurturing meeting point for our multicultural community and a wider audience eager to embrace new ideas and diverse perspectives within the realms of sound, music, art, performance, and activism. We are delighted to announce that this 2023, Radical Sounds is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Through a dynamic six-day hybrid program, taking place both online and offline, we invite everyone to join us in the exploration and reimagining of sound, music, art, and profound dialogues. The festival is a testament to the celebration of communal spirit and the elation it brings. We cherish forgotten stories, create new ones, and embrace the enduring legacy of our shared heritage. We are genuinely thrilled to embark on this celebration with you! The lineup for our first event features the European premiere of "Anganga," a contemporary reinterpretation of vissungos – music by enslaved Africans in Brazil – by the duo comprised of the renowned singer Juçara Marçal in collaboration with Rio de Janeiro's prolific experimental electronic musician Cadu Tenório; Ife Day presenting "Les Retournée" – metamorphic beings, a vampire and a little being bond in order to empty reality; Camila Nebbia, a sax player debasing hierarchical systems by exploring migrational counterpoints; Marcioz presenting "Entrelaços," a piece that creates new sonic narratives for the afro brazilian instrument Repinique; violinist, composer, and improviser Gibrana Cervantes blending noise and melody resulting in emotive and contemplative pieces; and DJ Latinchat combining influences from Caribbean and Latin American rhythms like dancehall, cumbia, reggaeton, salsa and festejo with elements from ambient, techno, kosmische musik and UK bass. The event features pop-up food by Roots Radicals, a Berlin based handcrafted, zero-waste food company that focuses on reconnecting people to good food. Care, time, and love are their added ingredients, carrying the magic and wisdom needed to channel lost traditions.
